Reporting changes if you have voluntary income protection coverage

If you have taken out voluntary income protection coverage (‘vrijwillige verzekering’) with us, you must report any changes that could affect this coverage. This includes changes to your contact details or personal situation, as well as any adjustments to your policy.

How to report changes

To report changes or make adjustments to your policy, complete the form Changes related to your income protection coverage (‘Wijzigen verzekering van UWV’). You will need either a DigiD account or a valid European electronic ID (‘Europees erkend inlogmiddel’) to do this.

What types of changes should you report?

Make sure you report the following types of changes to us:

  • if you will be earning more or less and want to change the amount you are covered for
  • if you want to cancel an authorisation allowing someone else to manage your coverage
  • if you want to cancel your policy
  • if your personal or business contact information changes
  • if your employer’s contact information changes
  • if you become ill, pregnant or unemployed

Changing the amount you are covered for

You must inform us by 1 October if you want to increase the amount you are covered for in the following year. If your request is approved, your new coverage will start on 1 January of the next year.

There are exceptions to this rule. You can adjust your coverage at any time if 1 of the following situations applies to you:

  • You will consistently be earning more on a permanent basis.
  • You are providing home help (‘dienstverlener aan huis’) and are not receiving, and have not applied for, a benefit.

Keep in mind if you will permanently be earning more, we will ask you to provide proof of this. You will therefore be required to submit 1 or more of the following:

  • a copy of your profit and loss statement (‘winst- en verliesrekening’)
  • a copy of 1 or more payslips
  • a copy of your employment contract

If, after reviewing your documents, we determine you will indeed be earning considerably more on a long-term basis, you will be allowed to increase the amount you are covered for. However, there is a maximum limit to how much coverage you can take out.

Cancelling your policy

You can cancel your policy at any time by using the same form that you would to report any changes to us. We will then cancel your policy as soon as we receive your form. Make sure you cancel your policy on time. This is important as any premiums paid will not be refunded.
