• You are fully unemployed.
  • You have been receiving an unemployment benefit for at least 4 weeks and have been available for work during that time, for example, you have not been on holiday. This period can be shorter if you are going abroad because your partner is going to work there.
  • You have been registered as a jobseeker with UWV for at least 4 weeks.
  • You still meet the criteria for receiving an unemployment benefit.

You can transfer your unemployment benefit abroad for up to 3 months. In some situations, this period can be extended by a further 3 months. Please contact us if you want to request an extension.

While receiving an unemployment benefit abroad, you must follow the rules of the benefit organisation of the country you are registered as a jobseeker. You must also continue to meet the obligations you have with us, which include the following requirements:

  • Apply for a PD U2 form no later than 1 week before you are going abroad. The PD U2 form entitles you to live in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland while still receiving your Dutch unemployment benefit.
  • Inform your UWV employment adviser (‘adviseur werk’) that you are leaving the country.
  • Register with the relevant benefit organisation in your new EU/EEA country or Switzerland within 7 days of leaving the Netherlands. Otherwise, you will not receive a benefit for the period between your departure and your registration.

To authorise someone else to apply for a PD U2 form on your behalf, fill out the authorisation form and return it by post or upload it online. To upload the form, log in with either a DigiD account or a valid European electronic ID.

If you find work within 3 months of leaving the Netherlands, the following will happen:

• If your earnings are more than 87.5% of your average monthly unemployment benefit income (‘WW-maandloon’) for 2 months in a row, your unemployment benefit will end.
• If your earnings are 87.5% or less of your average monthly unemployment benefit income, your benefit will supplement this income (‘aanvullende WW-uitkering’) until the 3-month period ends.
