You must inform your employer of your illness as soon as possible. They will continue paying your salary for the period you are ill.

If you are a casual employee, tell your employer you are ill by day 2 of your illness at the latest. They will pay your wages for the period you are ill during an assignment. If you are not working on an assignment, you should contact us as soon as possible as you might qualify for a sickness benefit.

If your employment contract ends while you are ill, your employer will inform us of this on your last day of employment. You might qualify for a sickness benefit from this day onwards.

You must inform your employment agency of your illness. Make sure you do this by day 2 of your illness at the latest. What happens next depends on your contract: 

• If the contract has an agency stipulation (‘uitzendbeding’), your employment with the agency will end. We will then evaluate your situation to see whether you qualify for a sickness benefit. 
• If the contract does not have an agency stipulation, your employment agency will continue paying your wages for the period you are ill.

Inform us of your illness if you are self-employed and have voluntary income protection coverage. To do this, call UWV Telefoon werknemers (the UWV employee helpline) by day 2 of your illness at the latest.

Let us know you are ill by day 2 of your illness if you are receiving an unemployment benefit. You can do this via Mijn UWV. 

You will continue receiving your unemployment benefit for the first 13 weeks that you are ill. If you are still ill after this period or if your unemployment benefit ends earlier, you will receive a sickness benefit instead.
