Arranging additional partner’s leave for an employee
If your employee's partner has just given birth, your employee will be entitled to 1 week of standard leave. In addition, they can also take a further 5 weeks’ paid leave after their child is born. This is known as additional partner’s leave ('aanvullend geboorteverlof'). You will have to apply for this on your employee’s behalf.
To apply for additional partner’s leave, use the Report an absence feature (‘Verzuimmelder’) on the employer portal and select ‘WAZO-verlof’. Alternatively, if you are a Digipoort user, you can apply for paid parental leave through your own HR administration system, which is directly linked to our system.
You will need the following information when applying:
- the child’s date of birth
- the amount of leave your employee wishes to take (the minimum is 1 week, the maximum is 5 weeks)
- the date on which your employee would like their leave to start (the earliest date being 1 week after the standard leave began)
You will need to confirm your employee has already taken 1 week of standard leave. Standard leave cannot start any earlier than the day after the baby was born. It must be taken within 4 weeks of the baby’s birth.
Wait until the baby is born before applying for additional partner’s leave. You can apply as early as 4 weeks before the additional leave starts. Do not apply any later than 4 weeks after the last day of paid leave.
Your employee will receive a decision about their additional partner’s leave within the first 4 weeks of their paid leave. You will be sent a copy of this decision.
We will transfer the benefit payments to you once every 4 weeks. Or, you can receive the payments in one go. If you would prefer to have these benefit payments transferred directly to your employee, let us know in your application.
