We recommend calling us before filing an objection. This ensures we are able to clarify things for you and explain why we took this decision. It also gives you an opportunity to pass on any information we might not have.

Keep in mind you will not be able to file an objection over the phone.

To make an objection, complete the Objection form (‘Bezwaar maken’). You will need a DigiD account to do this. If you are an employer, you will be able to access this form by logging onto the employer portal with your EH3 level eHerkenning account.

Please note: If you are making an objection on behalf of an employee, you will not be able to do this online. Instead, you will need to download the Objection form for employers and send it to the address specified in your decision letter.

Your decision letter will tell you how much time you have to make an objection. You will usually need to do this within 6 weeks of the date of the decision letter. In some cases, such as with sickness benefit decisions, this will be 2 weeks. We will confirm that we have received your objection within 5 days of you sending it.

Please note: We will not process objections submitted after the deadline.

If you need more time to prepare your objection, you can send us a provisional objection. You will not have to explain why you are objecting in your provisional objection. Just let us know you will be sending the reasons later. We will give you a deadline of when you need to do this by.

If you are objecting on the basis of medical grounds, we will require specific medical information from you. Please ensure you send us these documents separately by post. This approach guarantees your medical details will remain confidential. Keep in mind your employer might receive a copy of your objection, but they are not allowed access to your medical information.

You can authorise someone else to make an objection on your behalf. To do this, complete and sign the authorisation form for making an objection (‘Machtigen voor bezwaarprocedure tegen beslissing UWV’).

If you are an employer, the authorised person will be able to object both online and by post. However, if you are an individual, the authorised person will only be able to file an objection by post. In such a case, make sure the authorisation form and completed objection form are sent to the address specified in the decision letter.

Please note: You will not need to use the authorisation form if the person authorised on your behalf is a lawyer or legal professional.

You will usually receive a decision on your objection within 13 weeks of your objection submission deadline. If your objection is based on medical grounds, this period will be extended to 17 weeks. In cases where your objection concerns the status of your health, you can expect a decision within 6 weeks of your objection submission deadline.

If we need more time to reach a decision, we will notify you of this in a letter.

If you disagree with our decision on your objection, you can appeal against it. In certain situations, you might be allowed to skip the objections process and appeal straight away. This could happen, for example, if you have already had extensive discussions with us and it is clear an agreement will not be reached.

To go straight to an appeal, these steps must be followed:

  • You must file an objection with us and specify you want to proceed straight on to an appeal.
  • You must wait for our confirmation that we will forward your appeal to a judge.
  • You must get the judge’s approval to proceed with the appeal.
