Applying for an UWV top-up benefit during your unemployment benefit application

In some cases, you can apply for an UWV top-up benefit as part of your unemployment benefit application. This will come up automatically during the application. In this case, you do not have to submit a separate application form for the top-up benefit.

You can also apply for an UWV top-up benefit for previous period, going back up to 1 year.

If the type of benefit you are receiving changes while you have an UWV top-up benefit, you usually do not need to apply again. Your top-up benefit will automatically transfer to your new benefit, as long as your new benefit starts immediately after your previous benefit ends. For example, if your unemployment benefit changes to a sickness benefit or IOW benefit.

We will carefully review your application. We will let you know if we need more information, for example, about your living situation or your partner’s income.

We will let you know within 8 weeks whether you qualify for an UWV top-up benefit.

If your circumstances change

It is important that you report any changes in your personal situation or income as soon as possible. We will then recalculate your UWV top-up benefit to make sure you receive the correct amount.

When and how you receive your UWV top-up benefit depends on your situation and the benefit you are receiving.

UWV top-up benefit while receiving a benefit

We pay your UWV top-up benefit at the same time as your benefit. For more information about payment dates, see Payments by UWV (in Dutch, ‘Uitbetaling door UWV’).

UWV top-up benefit if you have an employer

We pay your UWV top-up benefit every week. 

In some cases, you may receive the UWV top-up benefit from your employer. This is something you will have agreed with them.
