The United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) has withdrawn from the European Union on 31 January 2020. The EU and the United Kingdom have reached an agreement, the so-called withdrawal agreement. This agreement sets out a transition period. This transition period lasts from 1 February 2020 up to and including 31 December 2020. During this period, all EU laws and regulations will continue to have legal force for the United Kingdom. There are hardly any changes for employees and employers.
It is still unclear what will happen after 31 December 2020. This depends on the result of the negotiations between the EU and the United Kingdom.
