You might be entitled to a sickness benefit in the following cases:

  • You are a casual worker and your contract automatically ends once you report sick.
  • You are self-employed and have voluntary income protection coverage (‘vrijwillige verzekering’).
  • You are employed and become ill during pregnancy or childbirth.
  • You are employed and become ill due to donating an organ.
  • You are employed and covered by the risk-free scheme for employers (‘no-risk polis’).
  • You are ill and your contract ends.
  • You become ill within 4 weeks of your contract ending.
  • You are receiving an unemployment benefit (‘WW-uitkering’) and have been ill for more than 13 weeks.
  • You are ill and your unemployment benefit ends.
  • You become ill within 4 weeks of your unemployment or sickness benefit ending.
