• You must report sick in order to receive a sickness benefit, who you report to depends on your situation.
• You must report sick on your second day of illness at the latest.
• You will also be asked to complete an online questionnaire about your illness and situation. We will then evaluate this to see whether you qualify for a sickness benefit.
• Your situation and income will determine how much benefit you will be entitled to.
• You will be entitled to a sickness benefit for up to a maximum of 2 years.
• You have certain rights and obligations when receiving a sickness benefit.

You might be entitled to a sickness benefit in the following cases:

• You are a casual worker and your contract automatically ends once you report sick.
• You are self-employed and have voluntary income protection coverage (‘vrijwillige verzekering’).
• You are employed and become ill during pregnancy or childbirth.
• You are employed and become ill due to donating an organ.
• You are employed and covered by the risk-free scheme for employers (‘no-risk polis’).
• You are ill and your contract ends.
• You become ill within 4 weeks of your contract ending.
• You are receiving an unemployment benefit (‘WW-uitkering’) and have been ill for more than 13 weeks.
• You are ill and your unemployment benefit ends.
• You become ill within 4 weeks of your unemployment or sickness benefit ending.
