UWV is a professional and knowledge-intensive organisation that performs an important social task. Our employees combine a client-oriented attitude with commitment, professionalism, a focus on results and collegiality. At the end of 2014, UWV employed 16,672 FTEs (19,518 employees). The workforce of UWV has decreased by a total of 6,813 FTEs (8,016 employees) since 2003 until the end of 2008. The workforce increased for the first time once again in 2009. That was mainly due to the merger with CWI as of 1 January 2009. As a result of major cutbacks, thousands of jobs will be lost in the coming years.
In order to be able to accommodate the rapidly growing number of unemployment benefit applications resulting from the economic crisis, we were given additional room in the budget from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment to temporarily deploy extra personnel to handle benefits and assist job seekers. We were also given additional budget to temporarily deploy extra employees to help less computer-literate clients learn to work with e-service provision.
