If you qualify for an IOW benefit, we will contact you to let you know that you can apply.

From 5 weeks before your unemployment benefit ends, you can apply for an IOW benefit via Mijn UWV. You will find a form ready for you to complete.

If you are entitled to an IOW benefit after your salary-linked WGA benefit ends, we will send you an application form by post. If you have not received this form, please contact us.

1. Make sure you have an overview of your income close to hand.
2. Log in to Mijn UWV and complete the application form that is ready for you.
3. Download the acknowledgement of receipt ('ontvangstbevestiging'). We do not send a confirmation by email.

We will let you know within 8 weeks of your application whether you are entitled to an IOW benefit. Sign up for the Message Box (in Dutch, ‘Berichtenbox') and you will be notified automatically as soon as the decision is available.

If your income is lower than the guaranteed minimum income (‘sociaal minimum’), you may be able to apply for an UWV top-up benefit. If you were already receiving an UWV top-up benefit during your unemployment benefit or salary-linked WGA benefit, this will continue automatically.
