Apply for the benefit no sooner than 4 and no later than 2 weeks prior to the start date of the leave. The term of leave can commence anywhere between 6 and 4 weeks prior to the presumed date of delivery. Your employee determines the start date of her leave period.

Your employee can take leave between 6 to 4 weeks prior to the presumed delivery date. After her delivery, she is at all times entitled to at least 10 weeks of leave. Other rules apply should she be expecting twins or multiple children.

Partners of women who have recently given birth may be provided with extended partner leave.
